My wife and I decided to go grab a quick bite to eat at a place we have never been before, by ourselves as we had my parents in town to watch our 7 month old baby. My wife decided on the place and she asked if I wanted Texas Style BBQ or a more Exotic Style of BBQ. My wife knows me well and knew that how she worded the second option would grab my attention. So we went to African BBQ House in Orleans, East end of Ottawa. It was incredible!

The restaurant has mainly converted to a take out joint, as so many restaurants had to in recent years, but still has a couple tables for dine in.
My wife ordered the Fish Skewers plate. Its a combo of grilled fish, fried plantains, a little salad, and rice. My wife asked for the vegetable rice over the jallof rice. The fish was probably the best grilled fish we have ever had. The plantains were perfectly cooked. The rice was velvety and delicious. Everything had obtained a bit of that charcoal flavour, which is amazing.

I ordered the Half Chicken plate, cause I like to eat, with the jallof rice. The jallof rice was rice and delicious, highly recommended. The star of the meal though was the chicken. Flavour wise sort of like Nando’s chicken the chain but a 1000 times better. My mouth is literally drooling just remembering this chicken. It was so juicy and the spices were balanced beautifully. Both of theses orders could probably feed more then one person but I just couldn’t stop myself from eating all of it. Also my wife and I both requested the meals be spicy, they ask when you order, there was a bit of heat but everything was really well balanced especially with the mango juice we paired with it as sugar cuts heat, not that the heat needs to be toned down in my opinion!

I will definitely being going back for more!
